Jang-pil, in his fifties, lives alone in a shabby inn on the outskirts of Seoul, designated for exam students. He’s poor but kindhearted. Jang-pil lends money to a young man who lives in the same building, but the young man betrays him by stealing his job. To make matters worse, Jang-pil is swindled by a neighborhood woman whom he met on the street. He accidentally kills her and sinks into a deep depression.
