This month’s <Korean Cinema Today> webzine is live with a lead story examining last year’s total box office results. Korean film industry expert Darcy PAQUET looks back on 2011’s hits and misses as well as South Korean movie-going trends.

A second feature covers the multi-national production details of KANG Je-kyu’s roving World War II film<My Way>. Writer KANG Byeong-jin looks at the film from conception to birth as Korea’s biggest-budget film ever. The feature is accompanied by interviews with the director and lead actor JANG Dong-gun after a grueling shoot.

Another interview this month is with director PARK Hong-min, who speaks about what went into making the low-budget 3D film <A Fish>. The film was an early selection for the International Film Festival Rotterdam and will be their first ever 3D Tiger Awards competitor.

This month’s guest column is written by Tom VICK, the US-based author of <Asian Cinema: A Field Guide>and film curator at the Smithsonian museum in Washington, DC. Vick talks about specific films and trends he has noticed while attending international film festivals and programming for the Smithsonian’s Korean Film Festival DC.

As usual, <Korean Cinema Today> is also filled with information on new films, monthly box office, and industry news. This includes news on <Sector 7> becoming the highest grossing Korean film in China and the Palm Springs International Film Festival picking Oscar submission <The Front Line> for its Awards Buzz section.
