SU Ae to Head Women’s Ice Hockey Team

Seven years after the original, sports blockbuster Take Off 2 is gearing for a 2016 release, this time with all-female athletes. Leading the cast is popular star SU Ae and taking the directing reigns will be KIM Jong-hyun.

Following the first film’s focus on sky jumping, SU, whose most recent film credit was 2013’s The Flu, will play one of the members of Korea’s first ever women’s ice hockey team. The nascent team will feature a North Korean defector, a banned skater, a middle age woman and a middle school student. SU’s teammates will be played by KIM Seul-ki (Ode to My Father) and JIN Ji-hee (The Throne). Co-starring alongside them will be Korea’s most in-demand supporting star OH Dal-su, who is currently gracing screens in the hits Assassination and Veteran.

Director KIM is not a stranger to sports films, having debuted with the baseball drama Mr. Gam’S Victory in 2004. He also made the buddy cop film My New Partner (2008) with AHN Sung-ki. The original, which was directed by KIM Yong-hwa and starred HA Jung-woo, accrued 8.49 million viewers (USD 49.09 million) in 2009.

Take Off 2, which will be distributed by Megabox Plus M, will begin production in October.
