The third director of Tazza franchise, a crime series previously directed by CHOI Dong-hoon and KANG Hyoung-chul, is appointed to be KWON Oh-kwang. Sidus Pictures, the producer of the movie, has announced that they have recently signed a contract with KWON on the third sequel in this series.

 

KWON is a promising rookie with his last month released comedy drama Collective Invention. This film has a unique story where an ordinary young man participates in a pharmaceutical test and turns into a piscine man, and has been invited to the 20th edition of Busan International Film Festival and the 40th edition of Toronto International Film Festival. He has been introduced several times to domestic and international film festivals with Encounter on the Sea (2009), Green Slime (2011) and Suffocation (2012).

 

Tazza: The High Rollers, the first of the series, was made in 2006 by CHOI Dong-hoon of The Thieves (2012) and Assassination (2015), featuring distinguished actors including CHO Seung-woo, KIM Hye-soo, BAEK Yoon-sik and YOO Hae-jin. It made a huge success attracting 6.84 million viewers with the well balanced story and suspense, and was introduced to the 9th edition of Udine Far East Film Festival, the 8th edition of San Diego Asian Film Festival and the 6th edition of Dallas Asian Film Festival.

Tazza-The Hidden Card (2014), the second of the series, was directed by KANG Hyoung-chul who was doing great with Scandal Makers (2008) and Sunny (2011). It was also star geared, including CHOI Seung-hyun, also known as T.O.P, a member of K-pop band Big Bang. Tazza-The Hidden Card continued with great box office performance with 4.01 million admissions.  

 

KWON’s Tazza 3 is in the middle of script writing. In an interview with the press, KWON declared that “Tazza 3 should have a distinctive attraction different from the previous two films, although we are still at the beginning.” Tazza 3 is based on the famous comic book by HUH Young-man. Sidus Pictures has announced that KWON is to direct the film on the adapted scenario and begin production in 2016.
