Hawaii IFF to Open with THE LAST PRINCESS

9 Korean Films to Screen in the Pacific
 

The 36th Hawaii International Film Festival is set to open with The Last Princess, a hit Colonial Era drama that sees April Snow (2005) director HUR Jin-ho and actress SON Ye-jin reunite for the first time in 11 years. The film was a smash hit in Korea during the summer, accruing 5.6 million viewers (USD 38.88 million).

Eight more films from Korea will also screen in Hawaii, including six in the ‘Spotlight on Korea’ section. Among those will be the world premiere of MISBEHAVIOR, the sophomore film of Set Me Free (2014) director KIM Tae-yong which features actress KIM Ha-neul. Other titles include Korea’s 2017 Academy Awards submission The Age of Shadows from KIM Jee-woon, HONG Sang-soo’s Yourself and Yours, which recently picked up the Best Director prize at the San Sebastian International Film Festival, JUNG Ji-woo’s swimming drama Fourth Place, BAEK Seung-hwa’s comedy-drama Queen of Walking with SHIM Eun-kyoung and PARK Heung-sik’s romantic drama Twenty Again.


In addition, HIFF will screen YEON Sang-ho’s Seoul Station, the animated prequel to his hit zombie thriller TRAIN TO BUSAN, in the ‘Fantastic Asia’ section, and WOO Min-ho’s explosive political thriller Inside Men in the ‘Asian Cinerama' program.

HIFF will open with The Last Princess on November 3rd and run until the 13th.
