Korean Sales Company Reps THE DRUG KING and New Thrillers on the Croisette

Korean film company Showbox has added a pair of new titles to its sales lineup just in time for the Marché du Film taking place during the Cannes Film Festival this year. The pickups include the crime action Hit-and-Run Squad and the action film Unstoppable.

From Coin Locker Girl (2015) director HAN Jun-hee, Hit-and-Run Squad stars KONG Hyo-jin (Crush and Blush, 2008) as a demoted officer and RYU Jun-yeol (A Taxi Driver, 2017) as a talented driver, who are both members of a police division specializing in hit-and-runs who go after a wealthy speed freak played by JO Jung-suk (MY ANNOYING BROTHER, 2016).

One of many upcoming projects with Don LEE (aka MA Dong-seok) of THE OUTLAWS (2017), Unstoppable, from debuting director KIM Min-ho, focuses on a legendary gangster looking to go clean but whose wife is kidnapped by people who don’t realize what they are up against. The crime drama co-stars KIM Sung-oh (The Merciless, 2017) and SONG Ji-hyo (New World, 2013).

Among previously announced Showbox titles, The Drug King is director WOO Min-ho’s follow-up to Inside Men (2015). The crime saga features SONG Kang-ho, who led last year’s Showbox hit A Taxi Driver, as a real-life drug kingpin in the Busan of the 1970s. The film co-stars JO Jung-suk, and BAE Doo-na of Netflix series Sense8 and Tunnel (2016), another Showbox hit.

From director KIM Tae-gyun (Spring, Snow, 2012), Dark Figure of Time pits KIM Yun-seok (1987: When the Day Comes, 2017) as an investigator who goes head to head with JU Ji-hoon (Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds, 2017) as a jailed criminal who confesses to more murders but won’t reveal the whereabouts of his victims.

Showbox is also presenting Money, the debut of director PARK Noo-ri, who was previously an assistant director under RYOO Seung-wan on The Unjust (2010) and The Berlin File (2013). RYU Jun-yeol features as a young stockbroker who comes under the wing of a major scammer played by YOO Ji-tae (Old Boy, 2003).

Also in the company’s lineup is their recent found footage horror hit GONJIAM: Haunted Asylum. Directed by JUNG Bum-shik, the film recently became the second most successful Korean horror of all time in the local market and has already scored a string of sales for Showbox internationally.
