Nominations Announced for 6th Edition of Leading Korean Indie Film Awards

The Wildflower Film Awards Korea are returning for their 6th edition next month, once again to be held at the Literature House Seoul on Namsan Mountain in the heart of the Korean capital. This year’s top nominees are KIM Ui-seok’s After My Death (2018) and SHIN Dong-seok’s Last Child (2018), which received six nominations apiece and initially premiered together in the New Currents competition of the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) in 2017. Not far behind with five nominations was JEON Go-woon’s Microhabitat (2018).

Joining those three prolific nominees in the seven-film Best Director for Narrative Film Award category are Hong Sangsoo’s Grass (2018) and O Muel’s Eyelids (2018), which each have three nominations overall, and ZHANG Lu’s Ode to the Goose (2018) and LEE Dong-eun’s Mothers (2018), both with a pair of nominations.

Meanwhile, the Best Director for Documentary Film category comprises JUNG Sung-il’s Night and Fog in Zona (2018), Mrs.B. A North Korean Woman (2016) by Jero YUN (whose 2017 BIFF opening film Beautiful Days is also nominated in the Best Cinematography category), KIM Il-ran and LEE Hyuk-sang’s The Remnants (2018), GWON Gyung-won’s Courtesy to the Nation (2018) and PARK Bae-il’s Soseongri (2018).

Other well represented titles at this year’s Wildflowers will be KIM Soo-jung’s A Blue Mouthed Face (2018), nominated in four categories, and KIM In-seon’s Korean Academy of Film Arts (KAFA) project Adulthood (2018).

This year’s Wildflower Film Awards Korea will take place on April 12.
