M-Line Sells Remake Rights at FILMART
Korean sales agent M-Line Distribution revealed to Screen Daily that it has sold Chinese remake rights for two of its titles, the mystery-thriller Forgotten (2017) and the romantic drama On Your Wedding Day (2018).
Released in late 2017, Forgotten was directed by ZHANG Hang-jun and follows the story of a young man whose brother is kidnapped, only to reappear several days later with no memory of what happened to him. KANG Ha-neul and GIM Mu-yeol starred as the siblings in the story which will be remade by A Production Pictures for the Chinese market. The film accrued almost 1.4 million admissions (USD 9.37 million) and its global distribution rights were eventually snatched up by Netflix, where the film is available now. ZHANG’s work was also screened at the Udine Far East Film Festival.
Meanwhile, director LEE Seok-keun’s On Your Wedding Day, the rights of which were sold to The Dream Chaser Pictures Limited, features PARK Bo-young and KIM Young-kwang in a story of a first love that fails to fully bloom over the course of a decade. The film proved to be a major hit last summer, welcoming over 2.8 million admissions (USD 20.82 million) despite a small budget. The drama screened at the Hawaii International Film Festival last year and the recently concluded CinemAsia Film Festival.
