Series Inspired by MY LOVE, DON’T CROSS THAT RIVER Awarded by International Documentary Association

The documentary series My Love: Six Stories of True Love, inspired by Jin Moyoung’s hit Korean documentary My Love, Don’t Cross That River (2014) and featuring Jin’s participation as both director and executive producer, picked up the award for Best Episodic Series at this year’s 37th IDA Documentary Awards, an annual event staged by the International Documentary Association (IDA).

My Love, Don’t Cross That River chronicled a heartwarming 75-year marriage of a couple who became known as the ‘100-year-old lovebirds’. My Love: Six Stories of True Love, a six-part series that debuted on Netflix during the spring of last year, employs the same template by exploring long-standing marriages in different corners of the world, with each episode focusing on a couple in different countries such as Brazil, India, Japan, Korea, United States and Spain. Director Jin returned to helm the Korean episode, which chronicles the marriage between Jeong Saengja and Cho Yeongsam.

Jin’s My Love, Don’t Cross That River became a sensation upon its release in 2014, when it turned into a huge box office event, outstripping all records set by prior documentaries and independent films on its way to welcoming 4.8 million viewers (USD 30.29 million) to cinemas.

The film was noticed by Netflix executives in Los Angeles, who approached Jin about expanding the concept into a documentary series. Jin then went about recruiting directors in other countries, who each followed couples for one year to make their own episodes.
