The New York Asian Film Festival 2022,’ which opened on July 15, will hold a ‘Korean Movie Special Exhibition,’ where you can meet 14 Korean films. This special exhibition, co-hosted by the Korean Cultural Center in New York with the New York Asian Film Foundation and Film at Lincoln Center, is sponsored by the Korea Foundation for International Cultural Exchange (KOFICE) and the Korean Film Council (KOFIC).

The New York Asian Film Festival, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, will screen more than 60 films at the FLC (Film at Lincoln Center) and the Asia Society in New York from July 15 to 31. Among them, 2 Korean films have been selected as the Centerpiece Film, the representative film of the year, and the closing film. The film selected as the Centerpiece Film is the war action masterpiece, HANSAN: RISING DRAGON, which depicts the ‘Battle of Hansan Sea’ of Admiral Yi Sunsin and the Joseon Navy. The film is also the sequel to ROARING CURRENTS, which recorded the highest number of audiences in Korean film history. The closing film is Alienoid, an SF action fantasy directed by Choi Donghoon, who directed Assassination and The Thieves.

Actor and director Cho Eunji's romance comedy Perhaps Love has been nominated for the ‘Uncaged Award for Best Feature Film,’ the best feature film award of the festival. Also, Director Choi Jaehoon's two films, THE KILLER_A GIRL WHO DESERVES TO DIE and The Swordsman, and Director Yoon Jongseok's crime thriller, Confession, have been officially invited to the ‘Genre Masters’ category, and they will meet the audience.

In addition, Director Park Riwoong's The Girl on Bulldozer, Director Cheon Myongkwan's Hot Blood, Director Jeong Gayoung’s Nothing Serious, Director Yeom Jiho’s Next Door, Director Lee Ilha’s I Am More, Director Kwon Sookyung’s Stellar, Director Park Sangmin’s I Haven’t Done Anything, etc. will be screened.

Not only the invitation news of Korean films but the award-winning news of Korean actors is heard in advance at the New York Asian Film Festival 2022. The lead actor Ryu Seungryong of Perhaps Love was pre-selected as the winner of the ‘Best from The East Award,’ a new award that has been presented for the first time this year. The festival said, " Ryu Seungryong’s versatility and authenticity is on full display in the screwball dramedy Perhaps Love, as a washed-up novelist, divorced husband, and ineffectual father who is reinvigorated by a collaboration with his gay student,” revealing why the festival awards him.

Actor Kim Hyeyoon of The Girl on Bulldozer will receive the Screen International Rising Star Asia Award, which is presented to young actors who the film festival is paying attention to. In addition, Actor Jang Hyuk, who starred in The Swordsman and THE KILLER_A GIRL WHO DESERVES TO DIE with outstanding action, was selected as the winner of the ‘Daniel A. Craft Award for Excellence in Action Cinema.’

The New York Asian Film Festival, which marks its 20th anniversary this year, is an Asian film festival held annually in New York with partnerships between ‘Subway Cinema’ and the ‘Lincoln Center Film Society.’ Starting in 2002 and with a public-friendly yet clear programming, the festival selects and introduces 60 feature and short films of various genres from Asian countries, including Korea, Hong Kong, China, Japan, Taiwan, and Thailand every year.
