TVING Original MIDNIGHT Debuts at Number 6

With holdovers leading the way, the box office was down, but only a marginal 5% as 757,000 viewers ventured to theaters over the past weekend. Meanwhile, the local market share improved, reaching 40% as the domestic film market steadily comes back online.

After its solid start last week, the action-thriller HARD HIT was down just 8% as it handily topped the charts once more with 235,000 sales (USD 2.08 million). The CJ Entertainment film has attracted 735,000 viewers (USD 6.19 million) to date.

The Disney hit Cruella rose 24% during its sixth week on the charts, as it scored another 166,000 entries (USD 1.5 million). With 1.72 million spectators (USD 14.72 million) banked so far, the film is currently the ninth most well-attended film released during the pandemic and fifth among foreign titles.

Down a slight 25% was the horror sequel A Quiet Place Part II, which added 97,000 viewers (USD 881,000) for a running total of 782,000 admissions (USD 6.86 million).

Pixar animation Luca also had a slight dip, just 22%, as it filled another 62,000 seats (USD 523,000), pushing its total to 329,000 viewers (USD 2.67 million).

Last week’s number two film, Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, dropped three spots and 58%, with 57,000 tickets (USD 527,000) sold over the weekend, raising its haul to 357,000 entries (USD 3.11 million).

Debuting just outside of the top five in sixth place was the local horror film Midnight, a TVING Original that launched in theaters and online simultaneously. The film secured 49,000 viewers (USD 411,000) over the weekend, with 87,000 spectators (USD 664,000) counted since its Wednesday launch.

As of Monday morning, Black Widow is commanding 82% of all ticket sales on the reservations chart and is poised for one of the biggest launches of the pandemic.
