Thor: Love and Thunder in 2nd Place, Decision to Leave Passed the Break-even Point

Top Gun: Maverick beat Thor: Love and Thunder at the box office over the weekend, showing its potential to reverse the box office. According to the Korean Box Office Information System (KOBIS) of the Korean Film Council (KOFIC), Top Gun: Maverick added 702,281 viewers over the weekend (July 15-17), recording 5,733,786 viewers in total. Its sales share is 43.2%, and its weekend sales are USD 5.7 million. Top Gun: Maverick, which was released on June 22, was in the 4th week of its release, but the audience's increase and decrease rate compared to the previous week was only -12%, turning on the blue light for the long-term box office success. This week, the anticipated Korean film Alienoid, which topped the reservation rate, will be released, and the number of screening theaters for Top Gun: Maverick will be reduced, but the total audience is expected to surpass 6 million within this week.

Thor: Love and Thunder, which started at the top of the opening weekend, fell sharply to -66.4% from the previous week, stepping down to 2nd place. The weekend audience was 398,340, and the sales share was 25%. The total number of its audience is 2,493,744.

Decision to Leave maintained 3rd place at the weekend box office with 207,229 viewers and a 12.9% sales share. Also, it recorded 1,247,152 viewers in total, exceeding 1.2 million viewers known as the break-even point. Director Park Chanwook's Decision to Leave, which won the Best Direct at the 75th Festival de Cannes, started with a lower-than-expected performance at the beginning of its release, but thanks to the spread of word of mouth, it is showing its endurance with a high seat sales rate of 20-40% even though the number of the screenings has decreased.

4th place is the Japanese animation Detective Conan: The Bride of Halloween, released on July 13. The cinema version of Detective Conan: The Bride of Halloween is famous as the ‘longevity animation’ with a solid fan base. The film had 148,557 viewers with 8.8% sales share on its first weekend.

The Roundup is 5th place at the weekend box office with 12,659,061 viewers in total, adding 35,521 viewers over the weekend audience. ELVIS, directed by Baz Luhrmann and featuring the musical life of Elvis Presley, the world's most famous rock and roll musician, was released on July 13, ranking 6th at the weekend box office. The action movie, THE KILLER_A GIRL WHO DESERVES TO DIE, starring Jang Hyuk, and the horror movie, Contorted, starring Seo Younghee ranked 7th place together.
