2nd Place is Don Lee's Men of Plastic, 3rd is A Birth, the Life Story of Saint Andrew Kim Taegon

Director Ahn Taejin's The Night Owl, which is receiving favorable reviews as a well-made costume drama thriller, topped the weekend box office for 2 consecutive weeks. According to the Korean Box Office Information System (KOBIS) of the Korean Film Council (KOFIC) on December 5 (Monday), The Night Owl drew 553,132 audiences nationwide from November 2 to 4, topping the box office with 45.7% sales.

The Night Owl is a historical drama about a blind acupuncturist who can only see in the darkness. He accidentally witnesses the death of the crown prince who returned from the Qing Dynasty. Actor Ryu Junyeol and actor Yoo Haijin star in the film. Surpassing 1 million viewers within a week of its release and showing its box office power in the off-season, The Night Owl is on the verge of surpassing 2 million by dominating the box office over the 2nd weekend of its release. The total audiences are 1,832,518 as of December 5, and unless there is an unexpected change, the number is certain to surpass 2 million audiences this week.

Men of Plastic, a comedy starring Don Lee, which was released on November 30, started in 2nd place at the box office on the first weekend of its release with 214,163 audiences and 17.7% sales over the weekend. Men of Plastic is a comedy about a businessman (played by Don Lee) who dreams of a 'new beauty business' in 2007 against the backdrop of 'Apgujeong,' an affluent area in Seoul. He joins hands with a talented plastic surgeon (Chung Kyungho) to start a K-beauty business. Along with Don Lee, who became an actor with 10 million viewers with The Roundup, Chung Kyungho, Oh Nara, and Oh Yeonseo appeared. The film was directed by Lim Jinsun of Ordinary People.

A Birth, which depicts the life story of Saint Andrew Kim Taegon, the first Catholic priest in Korea, drew 75,564 viewers and a 5.6% sales over the weekend. A Birth was premiered at the Vatican before it was released in Korea and received favorable reviews. Pope Francis received a big round of applause when he met the production team and the actors before the premiere at the Vatican, saying, "I will pray for 10 million viewers."
